Dr. Alexandro Ricardo Zarruk has been practicing internal medicine in Montreal since 2012. He specializes in cardiometabolic health, including diabetes, dyslipidemia, dysthyroidism, and obesity medicine. Passionate about evidence-based care and holistic, integrative approaches, he is committed to improving outcomes for patients with complex metabolic and hormonal conditions.
Dr. Zarruk holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Pharmacology from the Université de Montréal. His medical training includes studies in integrative medicine at the University of Sint Eustatius, a residency in internal medicine at Boston University, and advanced training in nephrology at the University of Ottawa. He recently completed an accreditation in functional medicine from the American Academy of Functional Health.
A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American College of Physicians, Dr. Zarruk is also certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Obesity Medicine. In addition to his clinical practice in Westmount and Saint-Laurent, he founded the West Island Metabolic Unit and the Clinique de la Cité-Vaudreuil.
Recognized as a leader in his field, Dr. Zarruk participates in continuing medical education at regional, national and international levels. He lectures on topics such as holistic approaches to cardiometabolic health, advances in the management of diabetes and obesity, and the links between hormonal health and chronic disease. His research into obesity and diabetes, as well as his role as past president of the Montreal chapter of Obesity Canada, testify to his commitment to the future of metabolic health.
When not practicing medicine or conducting research, Dr. Zarruk develops public health initiatives and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to improve standards of care. His passion for patient-centered care and education makes him a sought-after speaker at continuing medical education events, where he inspires his peers to optimize their practice.
